Lesson 1 from First Flight

Lesson title: A Letter to God

Summary of the Lesson

The story is about a poor farmer named Lencho who lived with his family on the top of a small hill. His only hope for survival was a good harvest. He waited eagerly for rain, but a sudden hailstorm destroyed his entire crop. Lencho became very sad because he had no money and no food for his family. However, he had complete faith in God. He believed that God would surely help him in his difficult time.

With this strong belief, Lencho wrote a letter to God asking for one hundred pesos to sow his field again and support his family. He posted the letter at the post office. When the postmaster read the letter, he was first amused, but soon he was deeply moved by Lencho’s faith. He decided to help the poor farmer. The postmaster collected money from his staff and friends and sent it to Lencho, signing the letter as “God”.

Lencho received the money but found that it was less than what he had asked for. He did not doubt God for a moment. Instead, he believed that the post office employees had taken the remaining money. In his next letter to God, he complained about the missing amount and called the post office workers “crooks”.

The story highlights Lencho’s simple and innocent faith in God and shows the kindness and generosity of human beings through the actions of the postmaster and his staff. It teaches us that humanity and compassion are still alive in the world.
